MAPE’s first-ever virtual Delegate Assembly recap
This year we celebrate MAPE’s 40th Anniversary. Check out MAPE’s 2020 Annual Report. On Saturday, Sept. 19, MAPE held its first-ever virtual Delegate Assembly (DA) with 192 delegates, alternates and staff. The DA is MAPE’s highest decision-making body charged with passing the budget and resolutions. Members submitted nine resolutions in advance of the assembly. Below is an overview of which resolutions passed and failed. A recording of the DA is available on YouTube.
Resolutions Passed
Resolution #1: Updates to language - Judicial Committee and Procedure
Passed with no amendments
Resolution #2: Judicial Solo Process for Resolving Complaints by Members
Passed with an added provision that the current complaints continue under the old procedure
Resolution #4: Election Violation
Passed with no amendments
Resolution #6: Updates to word count for candidate personal statements
Passed with no amendments
Resolution #7: Election Updates
Passed with the following amendments: Struck ”IF CANDIDATES PAY THE ENTIRE COST (INCLUDING STAFF LABOR COSTS), THEY MAY HAVE MAPE MAIL PRINTED CAMPAIGN MATERIALS TO MEMBERS. PRINTED CAMPAIGN MATERIALS SHALL BE MAILED TO MEMBERS 7 DAYS PRIOR TO THE VOTING WINDOW OPENING. IF MULTIPLE CANDIDATES WANT TO MAIL CAMPAIGN MATERIALS TO MEMBERS, THE MATERIALS SHALL BE SENT IN THE SAME PARCEL.”

Resolution #5: Create opportunities for Chief Stewards to Focus on Enforcement
Resolutions Moved to the Board of Directors for determination
Resolution #3: Governing Documents and Policies
Was amended to add “No complaint shall be filed until the parties have attempted to resolve the dispute through a mediation process established by the Board of Directors” to the end of Section 2: Filing a complaint. DA then voted to move this resolution to the Board of Directors.
Resolutions #8: Speaker of Employee Rights Committee
Not taken up by the DA and moved to the Board of Directors for determination.
Resolution #9: Replace Chief Steward with Lead Steward
Not taken up by the DA and moved to the Board of Directors for determination.
