Strategic Planning Update - Dec. 14, 2021
Where we are
The MAPE Board of Directors completed a two-day retreat in mid-November to explore key questions around our plan, figure out next steps, and make sure that as we start making decisions, we do so with a clear perspective from the elected representatives of our union.
Since the retreat, the Executive Committee has met twice to start implementing the next steps. Each of our key questions was assigned to a group of member leaders to work on. For example, the Finance Working Group is going to analyze the budget, dues, and spending priorities, while the Governance Task Force will explore options that would keep our geographic-based local structure while incorporating more of the benefits that come from agency-based work.
These assignments, and several others, will allow us to make strides on key issues in part by engaging the experts within the union and the folks who have been leading on them already.
Where we are going
The groups working to make progress on the key open questions will bring their recommendations back to the Executive Committee and the Board in January, and we'll have a draft of the strategic plan by early February.
We'll gather member feedback on that draft plan and finalize the plan in the late spring. Then we begin implementing it as a guide to power building in our union.
Our ask of you
Our strategic plan will be strongest if it reflects members' priorities and vision for the future of our union. It can't be the Board's plan, it has to be all of our plan.
