OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2024 ELECTIONS

Publish Date

Nominations open on September 3, 2024 and will close on October 3, 2024.  Voting opens on December 2, 2024 and closes on December 12, 2024.  Ballots will be tabulated by BigPulse Inc., a third-party vendor, and forwarded to the MAPE central office in accordance with the Election Rules, no later than December 13, 2024.

Statewide Nominations Committee
The formation of a Statewide Nominations Committee was authorized by the 2018 Delegate Assembly. The committee’s responsibilities include identifying potential leaders and encouraging them to run for a statewide or regional elective position.

Statewide Elections Committee
Members must send their nominations to the Statewide Elections Committee at swelect@mape.org.

Candidate Requirements
All candidates must provide a personal statement no later than October 17, 2024 or their name will not be placed on the ballot. All candidates must comply with the Social Media in Campaigns Policy and abide by all requirements in the Election Rules. A potential candidate must be a MAPE member by September 3, 2024 to be eligible for a nomination in this election.

STATEWIDE ELECTIONS

  • STATEWIDE PRESIDENT: 4-year term. The President shall be a lost time position with provision to guarantee no loss of accruals or benefits. The President shall serve as the Chair of the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and the Delegate Assembly. The President shall serve as an ex-officio member of Statewide Standing Committees, except for the elections committees. The President may call for special meetings of the Board of Directors or Delegate Assembly as provided for in the bylaws. The President shall appoint all committee members and committee chairs, subject to Board approval, except those for which provisions have been made.
     
  • STATEWIDE TREASURER: 4-year term. The Treasurer shall maintain all financial records and receive all moneys of MAPE, and deposit all moneys so received in the name of MAPE in a bank or financial institution approved by the Board of Directors. The Treasurer shall prepare and sign checks for such purposes as are required by the governing documents or are authorized by the Delegate Assembly, the Board of Directors, or the President. The Treasurer shall keep an accurate record of receipts and disbursements and shall make monthly financial reports to the Board of Directors. The Treasurer shall act as custodian of all properties of MAPE. The Treasurer shall chair the Finance Workgroup and shall perform other related duties as directed by the Board of Directors.
     
  • Two POLITICAL COUNCIL POSITIONS: 4-year term. The Political Council engages and organizes members interested in legislative activities for the benefit of MAPE members.
     
  • Two ORGANIZING COUNCIL POSITIONS: 4-year term. The Organizing Council promotes full and equal participation of all people represented by MAPE in the Union and workplace. 

EVEN-NUMBERED REGIONS

  • REGIONAL DIRECTOR POSITION: 4-year term. Regional Director must be a member of the Region they serve.

            Duties of a Regional Director include, but are not limited to:

    • Gathering concerns and interests of people they represent
    • Making policies that reflect their constituents’ interest
    • Performing other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors in accordance with the Board’s policies
    • Disseminating information regarding status of MAPE and newly enacted policies as well as standing policies of MAPE

ODD-NUMBERED REGIONS

  • LOCAL OFFICER POSITIONS: 2-year term. Local Officers must be a member of the Local they serve. 
  • PRESIDENT: conduct the affairs of the local and preside at local meetings. The President shall be a member of the Local Presidents Committee.
  • VICE PRESIDENT: preside at local meetings at which the President is not in attendance and shall chair the Local Job Action Committee.
  • SECRETARY: maintains a record of the local’s proceedings.
  • MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY: maintain a record of the local’s membership records and promote member recruitment, retention, and involvement
  • TREASURER: responsible for any funds directly received or disbursed by the local and shall maintain a record of the local’s financial transactions.

Special Elections are also open for the following offices:

STATEWIDE SECRETARY: 4-year term. The Secretary shall keep a record of the proceedings of the Delegate Assembly, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee, maintain all the records of MAPE, and perform other related duties as directed by the Board of Directors.
