Statewide President Chet Jorgenson presented Bierschenk with the Betty Rogers award. Nelson was named this year’s winner of the Neil Farnsworth award.

Jorgenson singled out Bierschenk, the director of Region 21, for her “just do it” approach to tasks. Jorgenson said one of the reasons for MAPE’s restructure was aimed at “new style” members like her, where they can just be plugged in to do tasks.

“We just have to have an avenue where she can be plugged in to do those things,” Jorgenson said. “I want to thank Marcia for everything she has done and to keep on doing it.”

Nelson is retiring in November after being active in MAPE since 1995. “There’s very little in MAPE that Terry hasn’t done,” Jorgenson pointed out before presenting him with the award. Nelson was a longtime member of the Board of Directors, a member of the Negotiations Team, a steward, the health-care coalition and a member of MAPE’s Technology Task Force and more.
