Class Consolidation Workgroup Update – Liz Pearson

  • If you have been at DHS for at least a year, and you have never received a letter (email containing a memo) from HR that states the determination for your position, contact HR (hr.announcements@state.mn.us) and cc Liz Pearson or Beth Davis
  • Anyone is welcome to join the Class Consolidation Workgroup. If you’re interested, contact Beth or Liz, or any of the other Local 2101 officers

What the New Contract Means For a New Employee – Earle Phillips

  • Earl started January 24 at DHS
  • Earl was apprehensive of the vacation time when he took the job here- he was used to getting 3 or 4 weeks per year. Now that the vacation time policy recognizing private sector service, it better mirrors what he had in his previous job.
  • This made him feel more welcome!

Recap of MAPE Day on the Hill, March 21 – Nicole Juan

  • 140 MAPE Members statewide participated
  • Focused talking to legislators about contract and pension
  • Rally on Rotunda- speakers included Senate Minority Leader Tom Bakk (DFL-Cook), MAPE President Chet Jorgenson, and MAPE members from across the state
  • Contract passed a week after Day on the Hill
  • Keep up pressure for pension bill!

Update on Local 2101 Strategic Plan – Marcia Bierschenk

  • Met with ~25 people in listening sessions
  • Met with Local 2101 Officers to identify themes: education, engagement, communication, mentorship, diversity and inclusion strategies, equity, visibility with community involvement
  • Next month we’ll discuss strategies about how to move forward around these themes • Contact Marcia if you have further ideas

Volunteer Committee Update – Jennifer Willette (PowerPoint)

  • Purpose of the committee: Plan and organize activities for members to volunteer in the community
  • Join the committee! Or if you have volunteer ideas, contact Andrea Falk or Jennifer Willete
  • Three activities for April/May:
    • Earth Day event- #MAPEforGood: Looking to partner with other locals to do a clean-up on Saturday, April 21. Details TBA
    • Second Stork Donation Drive: April 16 through May 4
    • Second Stork Packing Event: May 9, 4:30-6:30pm. Need 5-8 people to volunteer, up to 15. Contact Andrea or Jennifer if you want to volunteer

Membership Drive – Michelle Doheny

  • Lauren Siegel and Debbie Prokopf will be leading the membership drive now through the end of May. Statewide goal- 75% membership. This will allow us to continue to fund MAPE after the Janus decision
  • Local membership is around 80%. We want to increase that percentage!
  • Please reach out to Michelle, Lauren or Debbie if you want to help- having conversations with even 1 or 2 fee papers would make a difference!

Officers’ Elections – Liz Pearson

  • All of the local officers’ positions are up for election this year
  • Nominations open April 24
  • Positions are for 2 years
  • If interested in running or have someone to nominate, contact the Nominations Committee (Marla Ivan or Sam Reyes), or any of the officers
  • If you’re interested in learning more about any of the positions, please contact any of the current officers

New Contract Passed!

  • Celebrate! And let’s keep up the momentum! Let’s get our pension bill passed, too!
  • Overview of the Contract – Michelle Doheny
    • Overview includes instructions for submitting documentation for vacation time recognition from private sector
    • If you started a new position since July, backpay should reflect the new position as to when you started it. If that does not happen, let Michelle, a steward, or an officer know.
    • If you retired since July, backpay should reflect up until your retirement. If that does not happen, let Michelle, a steward, or an officer know.
    • Be sure to inform new people about vacation credit and other contract perks, because HR doesn’t usually do that

Legislative Action – Debbie Prokopf

  • Sign up for updates about what’s happening with MAPE at the legislature by texting LegAction to 55000 (not case sensitive)
