MAPE is committed to creating state workplaces where every worker has dignity at work, home and when they retire. We cannot do that without the support of strong commissioners and the action of our members. Now is the time to let Commissioner Harpstead and MMB know how important our contract proposals are and how you would be impacted.

Please share your story with Commissioner Harpstead and MMB Director of Labor Relations Jennifer Claseman by copying and pasting the email information below. Make sure to personalize!

SUBJECT: MAPE's proposals that would help the State

BODY OF THE EMAIL (please personalize):

Dear DHS Commissioner Harpstead and MMB Director Claseman:

Public service is about putting the needs of others ahead of our own and working to create a better future for all Minnesotans. As members of MAPE, we do just that. Your employees at the Department of Human Services worked tirelessly to help keep state government running though the pandemic. We stepped up at each and every opportunity because that is what public servants do.

We are asking you to step up for us and support the proposals MAPE is bargaining for in our 2023-2025 contract.

[Tell your story in this paragraph: I am a (title) with DHS. I (explain what you do in your job). Explain what you like about your job and why it’s important (helping Minnesotans/caring for the most vulnerable/collecting child support/other examples. Which of the proposals are important to you?]

I know Minnesota is having a difficult time retaining and recruiting workers to government service. Despite DHS recently spending more than $900,000 in incentives, State negotiators recently told us that approximately two-thirds of government employees leave after two years. I strongly support MAPE’s contract proposals and believe they can help retain as well as recruit employees to state service:

  • Competitive cost of living adjustment

  • Equitable access to a flexible workplace, including necessary equipment provided by the State

  • Length of service credit and vacation accrual

  • Student loan reimbursement

  • Ensuring permanent positions for ongoing work and providing humane rights and benefits for temporary unclassified workers

  • Updated definition of family

  • Deferred compensation

  • Meal reimbursement

We need a contract for the 21st Century: wages that are competitive and fair, affordable health care and flexible workplaces. These proposals will enable the State to recruit and retain the best workforce to serve Minnesotans. I urge you to support your employees, who have done so much for you and Minnesota, and their contract proposals.

Sincerely,

Your name
