Ask Council to pass the Labor Standards Board

Two years ago, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and the majority of City Council members supported the creation of a Labor Standards Board, which would give workers a seat at the table to talk about the working conditions in their sectors and inform policies that impact us. The Council members and mayor have promised to pass it by the end of the year. Despite also having a seat at the board, the Council and Mayor have received major pushback from businesses because they’re afraid of having to share the table with their workers. We in Labor know we need to ensure the voices of the workers are heard. Email the Council using the template below by Thursday, Nov. 14 asking the Council and Mayor to pass the Labor Standards Board.

Hi Council member (LAST NAME)

I am a state worker, community and union member reaching out to advocate in favor of the Labor Standards Board. As union members we are so excited about the proposed labor standards board because it adds even more ways for workers to get the support they need

Workers have been waiting over two years, you've all publicly stated your support, it's time to pass this policy now as is. This current version we know is already a compromise for workers, to comprise any further would send a signal that the voices of workers aren't valued. I am a proud union member and want to spend my money where I know workers are treated with dignity. A labor standards board that helps the city solve industry issues with advocates from the workers and bosses gets us closer to that goal.

This Thursday, please vote to pass the Labor Standards board in its current form.
