Ninety-seven percent of MAPE members voting said “yes” to the new two-year agreement. Voting was done electronically Aug. 1-Aug. 7. Previously, MAPE’s Board of Directors unanimously recommended the agreement to the membership for approval after the Negotiations Committee reached a tentative agreement with the Governor’s Team on June 28. Informational meetings were held throughout the state.

Next up, the ratified agreement now goes to the Legislative Subcommittee on Employee Relations (SER) for interim approval. The full Legislature will be asked to approve the agreement during the 2014 legislative session. We will keep MAPE employees informed of legislative hearings on their 2013-15 contract and the schedule for implementation of this year’s across-the-board wage increase.

The new agreement calls for MAPE employees to receive a 3 percent across-the-board wage increase retroactive to July 1, 2013. A second 3 percent across-the-board wage increase is effective July 1, 2014.

Additionally, eligible MAPE employees will receive a one-step salary increase annually on their anniversary dates.

As far as health insurance, state employees will pay 5 percent for single pay premiums starting on Jan. 1, 2015. This agreement also increases members’ maximum benefit in dental plan coverage from $1,000 to $1,500.
