FAQ

Who will be my union? Who is my union rep? What is my local?

  • Your union will continue to be MAPE.
  • Your local will be 201. If you are already a 201 person you should not see any change. If you are coming from a different local or agency you should start looking for information from 201 once you transition over. Local 201 is hosting a “Hello, Goodbye!” social https://mape.org/events/goodbye-hello-dcyf-members
  • Your union stewards can be found here: https://mape.org/locals/201

What has MAPEs involvement been so far?

  • So far MAPE has worked with the DCYF labor Liaison team to get updates and bring concerns heard through broad townhall meetings, one on one meetings, check ins with leaders, and legislative meetings.
  • MAPE members active in DHS and MDE have been meeting to discuss the impact of this change and are building up a meet and confer that will be ready to go once the agency opens its doors.

What is a meet and confer? What is an LMC?

  • Article 32, section 2 outlines the meet and confer meetings we have with management as:
    • The purpose of the Committee shall be to identify and address issues of mutual concern, including but not limited to: child care, safety (including state provided vehicles), sick leave and severance, employee assistance program, health insurance, employee initiated training, Appointing Authority initiated training, local concerns, parking, sexual harassment, expenses (home offices and equipment, travel, etc.) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
    • This is a regular meeting we will have bimonthly with management and MAPE members to discuss a variety of issues. We believe that the first few meetings will be hashing out issues and addressing concerns with the new agency operations.
  • The labor management committee (LMC) is a joint labor (AFSCME, MAPE, MMA) and management meeting to address shared issues that members bring to their unions.
  • If you are interested in being part of the leadership of these teams, please contact Britton at Bmikkelsen@mape.org.

How will seniority be decided when there are conflicts?

  • People’s classification and state seniority should not be impacted. If it is, MAPE needs to be informed right away.
  • If there are conflicts in seniority, for example an employee with the same amount of state or classification seniority as another, the seniority is determined by a lot draw done with management, HR, and union representation present.

Which stewards are staying at DHS? Which stewards at moving over to DCYF?

The stewards assigned to local 201 will be stewards who can work with both DCYF and DHS. As stewards are informed, they will be moved over we will have a more permanent list.

How do I let someone know if there is an issue?

The first thing you should do is reach out to your supervisor; they may have already been provided with an answer by HR. After that, please reach out to a steward. You can find their contact information on the local 201 page: https://mape.org/locals/201.
