Why join MAPE?

Making Minnesota better together!

Our mission

Public-sector workers building better workplaces and supporting strong, diverse communities.

Join MAPE

Our union is strongest when everyone is connected and sharing ideas, experiences and information.

Becoming a member is the first step toward a better workplace. Join today!

Five reasons to join MAPE.

Why MAPE?

Have a voice

Only MAPE members can vote in union elections, which includes determining statewide leadership, establishing negotiation priorities, as well as deciding whether to ratify our contract or strike. Membership ensures a stronger collective voice which enables us to secure better benefits and win higher wages. In the last two contracts, together, we won a 13.25% wage increase, in addition to available step increases.

Stand together

Solidarity is what makes us strong! We are the largest unaffiliated public sector union in the country. When we work together, we win better wages, benefits and working conditions, making our work lives better.

Leadership development

We invest in union leadership development and organizing, offering opportunities for trainings that cultivate skills to build our union and strengthen workplaces.

Our union has your back

You have resources in your MAPE local elected officers, stewards and professional MAPE staff - business agents who support you and your local, operations and IT specialists to get you connected, financial professionals to answer questions and communications experts to keep you informed. We work alongside you to make MAPE a home for you.

Building power in your workplace

Better in a union

Union members make 19.4% more than non-union workers, have access to better health care, dental, vision and prescription insurance, plus better retirement benefits. By having a seat at the table, you have the power to create change in your workplace to improve the working conditions that make MAPE strong!

Health care

Members consistently champion affordable, quality health care, demonstrating their commitment to fight against employer takebacks. The employer pays 95% of our premiums, totaling a more than $2,000 monthly benefit our members have defended through 45 years of negotiations.

Paid parental leave

Ten years ago, MAPE won paid parental leave. Parents have six consecutive weeks of paid leave after a birth or adoption, a hard-fought campaign that we have successfully defended in each contract.

Respectful workplaces

MAPE members were instrumental in establishing the Respectful Workplace Policy, which provides a framework to hold management accountable.
