MAPE Local 2001 President Ren Olive spoke at the AFL-CIO's mobile billboard tour in Rochester to highlight how President Trump’s mass deportation agenda has shifted costs onto working people across Southern Minnesota.

Instead of addressing rising costs of daily essentials like gas, rent and doctor visits, the current administration is fulfilling the wish lists of the ultra-wealthy and sticking taxpayers across Minnesota with the bill for ICE’s mass deportations.

Advocates highlighted a new calculator from the Economic Policy Institute that shows how the southeast region could pay $374 million, or $1,520 per taxpayer, for dangerous, widespread ICE activity throughout the remainder of his term. That $374 million could instead pay for nearly 11,000 Medicaid recipients, 1,260 public school teachers, over 6,900 veterans’ medical care, or over 2,000 firefighters in southern Minnesota.
