Largest single day MAPE recruitment event a success

On Dec.17, MAPE-represented employees across the state noticed paychecks a little larger than usual thanks to the implementation of their union-negotiated 2.5% pay increase and retro pay. Member leaders from nearly all 21 MAPE regions safely gathered both in-person and virtually for the biggest recruitment event of the year that Friday.

“This contract campaign, like everything the last few years, was more difficult than it should have been. In the end, with membership at our back, the Negotiations Team and Governor’s team came to an agreement that secured wage increases and held the line on additional healthcare burdens,” said MAPE Negotiations Team co-chair Adam Novotny. “I am hopeful for the future of workers, but I understand we would not be where we are without a strong union.”

After thousands of phone calls, hundreds of person-to-person conversations about our union, our benefits, our new contract and our shared experiences as state employees, 44 new MAPE members joined the ranks on Dec. 17 and more membership applications trickled into MAPE in the days that followed those calls.

“When we fight, we win! This contract reflects ideas from a record number of you who told us what you wanted to see in your contract,” said MAPE President Megan Dayton. “Together, we fought to make improvements to our working conditions, healthcare and compensation. Now we need all your help in passing our contract through the Legislature. Join us and join MAPE today!”

This is the third cycle in a row MAPE has bargained better across-the-board pay increases and held the line on health insurance.

“If we want to make that four cycles in a row, we’ll need everyone on board. Everything we have is because we have members,” Novotny added. “It’s not too late to learn more about MAPE Retro Pay Day and join today!”
