Department of Labor and Industry Meet and Confer Survey

The purpose of the Meet & Confer Committee is to discuss policies and other matters relating to employment, identify solutions, and discuss ways ahead with management. The Meet & Confer Committee provides a structured forum for representatives of employees and management (or administration) to discuss and negotiate matters of mutual interest. Contract violations and personal workplace grievances, such as violations of rights and unfair practices, should be brought to a union steward or business agent.

Examples of relevant concerns to the Meet and Confer Committee could be issues of workplace safety, return to office, parking, workloads, evaluations, resources, workplace policies, etc.

Please provide a clear, concise description of an issue that needs to be addressed. It identifies what the problem is, why it matters, and who is affected. The purpose of a problem statement is to define the gap between the current situation and the desired outcome so that solutions can be developed.

  • Context/Background – Briefly explain the situation or setting.
  • The Problem – Clearly describe the specific issue or gap.
  • Why It Matters – Explain the impact or consequences of the problem (on people, operations, finances, morale, etc.).
  • Desired Outcome – State what improvement or change is needed.

Example (general workplace context):“Employees have expressed that communication from management is inconsistent, leading to confusion about work priorities and expectations. This lack of clarity results in delays, lower productivity, and frustration among staff. Improved communication systems and regular updates are needed to ensure that all employees receive timely and accurate information.”
