MAPE welcomes new students to Macalester College

Members of MAPE@Mac, Macalester College's newest union, welcomed incoming students and their families during move-in day on Aug. 31. Union members greeted new residents, parents and volunteers with coffee, doughnuts and a warm welcome to campus. 

Along with refreshments and directions, MAPE members shared union information, sunglasses and pens while highlighting the important role staff play in supporting student success. 

"We love Macalester and we love working here," MAPE members shared. "Our union gives us a voice in our working conditions and helps ensure staff have the support they need to continue supporting students. We look forward to an amazing year with you!" 

More than 250 professional staff members are now united through MAPE@Mac and are working to secure a fair first contract. With negotiations scheduled for Oct. 14 and 22, supporters can contact Macalester President Suzanne Rivera and encourage the college to negotiate a fair agreement with MAPE members at president@macalester.edu.
