Dept of Corrections and DHS Direct Care and Treatment deficiency funding information
The legislature adjourned its September Special Session without passing the Dept. of Corrections deficiency funding request of $11.7 million and Dept. of Human Services' Direct Care and Treatment request of $25 million. Leaving this important legislation on the table is disheartening, to say the least, but the fight isn’t over!
The most important thing we can do at this moment is continue to tell the story of the work our members do in DOC and DCT. Can you tell us about your work?
We are asking MAPE members to contact your legislators, urging them to pass the DOC/DHS deficiency funding request to prevent layoffs.
Sample DOC message for your call and/or email: Hello, my name is ____________ and I am a MAPE member and work at the Department of Corrections as a ______________. DOC has a deficiency funding request bill that will be heard during special session. I am asking for your support for this bill. As the COVID-19 crisis has hit the state of Minnesota, I have been stepping up to serve Minnesotans, and without this bill important positions such as mine may face layoffs.
