As a [your job] for [your agency] I know how important my and my colleagues' work is to serve MN through the pandemic and recovery. Now we need the #mnleg & @GovTimWalz to know how important it is to fund our @MAPEmn state employees. #MAPESummit

As a @MAPEmn member, I serve my fellow Minnesotans to keep our state running through the pandemic & the recovery. @GovTimWalz please support all of our MAPE members in the budget to ensure we can continue our important work. #MAPESummit #mnleg #FundourFuture

2. Call and/or email your State Legislators and Governor

Find who represents you to call and/or email your State Senator and State Representative following the summit. Legislators will eventually vote on your contract. Use this webform to contact the Governor.

Sample messaging:

Intro:

  • Provide your name and where you live, so they know you are a constituent.
  • Explain what agency you work for and briefly what you do.
  • Explain why the work you do is important to keep Minnesota running through the pandemic and recovery.

Ask:

  • Can I count on you to support me and my fellow state employees with the resources we need so we can continue to provide critical services to Minnesotans?
  • Will you support a budget that preserves quality and affordable healthcare for all Minnesotans, including state workers?

Additional asks for the Governor:

  • Help us make the state an employer of choice by implementing the common sense and reasonable improvements MAPE is asking for around workplace conditions;
  • Keep the state workforce whole by supporting pay that keeps pace with the rising cost of living;
  • Hold the line on health care costs;
  • Keep in close touch with us and with state negotiators to help us reach a deal for a fair contract.

Example for Intro:

Hello Senator Kent,

My name is Jane Doe and I live in your district in Woodbury. I am an unemployment insurance agent at DEED. Without my position, thousands of Minnesotans would have gone without the help of unemployment insurance during the pandemic. During the first several months of the pandemic, my co-workers and I processed four times the number of requests than we do on a normal basis. I am extremely proud to say that our website did not crash like many states. Wait times did get long at times, but we all worked longer hours to ensure we could help as many people as possible.

Example for ask to State Legislators:

As a MAPE member, I want to ensure our state has the resources to meet the needs of Minnesotans. Will you support raising revenue from Minnesotans who can afford to pay a little more- like those earning over $1million/year or $20k a week so that there are resources to pull the state through to a COVID Recovery?

Thank you for your time.  Can we count on your support of the MAPE?

Jane Doe

Example ask to the Governor:

: As a MAPE member, I’m committed to working with you on Covid Recovery and to fulfill your promises for One Minnesota by reinvesting in the state. If we are to achieve those goals we need you to:

  • Help us make the state an employer of choice by implementing the common sense and reasonable improvements MAPE is asking for around workplace conditions;
  • Keep the state workforce whole by supporting pay that keeps pace with the rising cost of living;
  • Hold the line on health care costs;
  • Keep in close touch with us and with state negotiators to help us reach a deal for a fair contract.

Together we can bring Minnesota roaring back from what we’ve been through. You can count on me. Can I count on you?

Jane Doe

3. Join your Contract Action Team

A Contract Action Team, or CAT, is a group of members working together to amplify the work of the Negotiations Committee and union during the contract negotiations process that is going on right now. In previous cycles, various Contract Action Teams worked on:

  •  specific issues or contract language that was important to them,
  • helped mobilize co-workers to attend actions,
  • supported the contract through social media or contacting their Legislator,
  •  facilitated listening sessions, and much more.

MAPE is your union and this is your contract. Being a part of your Region’s Contract Action Team is the way to make sure we win the best contract possible.
