Legislative Session Highlights: MAPE contract receives first hearing, Corrections staff talk staffing and safety with legislators  

MAPE 2019-2021 Contract

The Minnesota House Government Operations Committee held its first hearing on MAPE’s 2019-2021 contract on March 3.  The bill, HF 3732, which has bipartisan support, is authored by Rep. Leon Lillie. Contracts have several committee stops left before a final passage vote on the House Floor.  

Corrections members testify and talk safety with legislators

MAPE member Robin Windsperger testified about staffing shortages and her experiences working as a clinical program therapist when only half the therapist positions are filled at the Lino Lakes Correctional Facility. DOC members later met with legislators to urge them to establish stronger staffing protocols for the safety of our members and the public.

Thurs., Mar. 5: ERA Rally and Lobby Day at the Capitol

Thurs., Mar. 5: H.F. 5, The Paid Family and Medical Leave bill will be heard on the House Floor tonight. If it passes the House, it will be sent to the Senate.  

Mon., Mar. 9: H.F. 1863, The bill that guarantees that state employees will be paid in case of a shutdown will be heard in the Ways and Means Committee at 9:45 a.m., 200 State Office Building. No public testimony will be taken.
