Legislative special session falls short
Minnesota legislators ended their one-week special session on June 20 without passing many significant pieces of legislation. The GOP-led Senate adjourned after failing to act on many important items.
Major issues that remain unresolved include deficiency funding requests for the Departments of Corrections and Human Services, funds for the Minnesota Zoo, a bonding bill and meaningful police reform.
The House passed the deficiency funding requests that MAPE supported, but there was not agreement from the Senate.
If Gov. Walz sees a need to extend the peacetime emergency powers past July 13, he will call the Legislature back into special session around that time.
