Join MAPE's Organizing Council

Publish Date

Are you interested in creating a stronger union? If you’ve ever thought about helping to build MAPE’s member power in every corner of the state, we have a position for you! MAPE is looking for members to join its Organizing Council.

If we want a more responsive legislature, better contracts and better membership recruitment, MAPE needs to reach every member person-to-person. The Organizing Council’s purpose is to organize diverse professionals to build power and will recommend strategic direction on MAPE’s organizing, membership, engagement and political work.

Members interested in joining the Organizing Council should submit letters with a detailed explanation of why they would like to participate on the council and a summary of their organizing experience to Beth Paris at bparis@mape.org. Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Oct. 11. Additional questions may be directed to Organizing Council Chair Sarah Evans at sarah.evans@state.mn.us.

The Organizing Council’s Leadership 2020 plan is designed to build the infrastructure need across Minnesota, based on the basic principle of one leader for every 20 members. The Organizing Council will be recruiting cohorts and leaders in every single local to be trained and mentored as organizing captains, and these captains in turn will build their 20:1 teams.

With a permanent statewide infrastructure in place, MAPE will have few limits. If an agency has a crisis and needs members across the state to participate in an action, we can use our structure to reach them all quickly. When we need to show our strength in contract negotiations, we’ll be able to organize actions across the state that show our united power.
