More than 300 union members attended a “Social Security: Count On It!” forum last weekend in Blaine.

Sponsors of the event included MAPE, the Minneapolis Reginal Retiree Council along with assistance from the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, the Minnesota State Retiree Council, the Minnesota AFL-CIO, and the University of Minnesota Labor Education Service.

Experts discussed challenges facing the Social Security program and solutions to ensuring the program continues to provide the earned income that seniors, persons with disabilities and survivors depend on.

Nancy J. Altman, a leading advocate for the Social Security program, was the keynote speaker. Altman is president of Social Security Works and chair of the Strengthen Social Security coalition.
