DHS offers folk concert, sweet treats as part of membership drive
For the second year in a row, MAPE leaders from Local 201 at the Dept. of Human Services (DHS) hosted an ice cream social as part of their efforts to connect with potential and existing members in their local. This year they also included a folk music duo to draw members out of their cubes for a sweet treat on a warm summer day.
New to his role as the local’s membership secretary, Randy Shimpach said his goal was to bring more fun to MAPE. The ice cream truck parked outside the DHS building on Lafayette along with the banjo, harmonica and guitar-playing duo did just that.
“Not only did we recruit five new members, but we also got people to congregate, talk union and hopefully generated some excitement,” he said.
