Blitzing around negotiations
MAPE locals across the Metro continued with plans to host events around the negotiations process last Wednesday despite the polar vortex creating less than desirable weather conditions.
At right, the heartiest of negotiators met at MAPE in the morning before kicking off blitzes across the Metro.
Local 401 featured two MAPE regional negotiators who attended a coffee break Wednesday to hear from members at Revenue and MNiT about the issues they hope to fight for in upcoming contract bargaining. Nearly 150 members came out for the coffee break, despite the frigid temperatures.
Negotiators heard about issues ranging from student loan debt to career advancement opportunities. Following the coffee break, negotiators stuck around and held individual meetings with local 401 members to gain an even deeper understanding of the issues they’re facing. By the end of the day, nearly 200 Local 401 members had the opportunity to speak directly with MAPE negotiators.

Region 9 was busy organizing three groups to present to negotiators in the morning, with topics including career development/advancement, per diem/travel reimbursement and reallocations/reclassifications. Local activists presented these topics and had small group discussion with the negotiators about the topics.
In the afternoon the local hosted 20 listening sessions for negotiators and MAPE staff. "People brought some good ideas to the table I think, so that’s good," Region 9 Director Steph Meyer said. "All in all it was a good day!"
