2019-2021 MAPE Contract has been Ratified
After reviewing action taken by the Senate during the final hours of session, today MMB announced that the 2019-2021 MAPE Contract has been ratified by the Legislature and will remain in full effect for the duration of the contract. This includes your negotiated July 1, 2020 pay raises. We believe this is a decision consistent with the law and the collective bargaining process we all abide by.
On May 11, the House voted to ratify the collective bargaining agreements and compensation plans as submitted. On May 17, the Senate voted to ratify the agreements and proposed modifications. After review, MMB ruled that the Legislature does not have the authority to unilaterally modify the agreements or plans, so they will be implemented as submitted.
Governor Walz and legislators from both bodies proved their continued support of the collective bargaining process. The incredible work by state employees like you has been acknowledged and validated by the passing of the contract.
We are grateful to live and work in a state that continues to value the importance of collective bargaining and uphold the integrity of the negotiations process. This modest contract is fair and was negotiated in good faith. Wages contained in the contract support our members, their families and the local economy, which is part of the recovery from this crisis.
More than ever, state employees are stepping up and stepping in to keep Minnesotans safe and government running during this global pandemic. Thank you to each of you who shared your story. We are still collecting these, so please share yours today!
This would not have been possible without the tireless work of our members who reached out to their legislators, answered our call for stories, shared examples of their work and continued to provide the quality services our neighbors rely on. Your work for the state of Minnesota is why this contract passed.
