MAPE Local 2001 Meeting

The Local 2001 August meeting was held simultaneously in Rochester and Winona via an ITV connection. There were 16 members in Winona and 3 members in Rochester. Stein Kristensen, Local 2001 President, called the meeting to order at 12:05pm.

Stein read MAPE Statewide President Chet Jorgenson's letter to the membership.

Stein brought forward the idea of starting evening meetings for the membership as suggested by some members.  Several ideas were brought forward including 1) having the meeting the same day as the noon meeting, 2) simply taping the noon meeting and broadcasting it or podcasting it, or 3) rotating Tuesday/Wednesday/Evening meeting.  The discussion was tabled to obtain more information from the individuals requesting the evening meeting.  Specifically finding out if evening started at 5, 6 or 7 and possibly what day of the week was being requested.

Stein explained the MAPE Delegate Assembly coming up in September.  He talked briefly about the resolutions put forward to the assembly.  Specifically, the resolution to pay off the mortgage was discussed.  An idea of waiting to pay off the mortgage based on how contract negotiations progressed was brought forward.

Kathy Richardson, Local 2001 Treasurer reported the balance of our Local 2001 account.  As of June 30 our balance is $5884.00.

Eric Porcher, Region 20 Director, recently attended his first Board of Directors meeting in Shoreview.  He shared that our health care fund currently has a $35 million surplus.  Because of this surplus our increase in insurance premium will be reduced to only 3.5% for 2009.  We will have the option of signing up for electronic medical records during open enrollment.

Stein discussed setting up a Google group for MAPE Local 2001.  Items such as meeting minutes will be posted at this site for all members to view.  A committee will get this started by our next meeting.
