REGION 1801 MEETING MINUTES
May 13, 2008
*Roll Call.
*April Minutes approved by consensus.
*Business Agent Report: Kelly Ahern introduced herself (#651/ 287-8766)
*Treasurer Report: Teren Novotny
Local checkbook balance: $872.42
MAPE account: $16,087.07.
*Negotiations Report: None.
*Board of Director Report: Cindy Kragenbring
Local membership at 263/390 members = 67.44%.
Need 48 employees to become full share members to reach 70% goal.
Overall, MAPE membership is growing and is now at 12,102 members.
Board of Directors will be bringing a resolution to Delegate Assembly to use crisis fund to pay
off building debt, which would save 1.2 million dollars in interest. Affinity has
provided a letter stating that this financial institute would provide a line of
equity equal to the value of the building in the event of a job action.
There is an immediate opening for a membership recruiter at MAPE for a
member on a lost time basis. Please see the website for details on the opening.
There will be a proposal brought to the June-08 Board meeting regarding the hiring
of a staff member for full time recruitment.
There will be a four day training on cultural diversity/harassment training
for MAPE staff conducted by the Singleton Group.
A $5000 donation was made to Hunger Solutions, which assists with statewide
food banks.
A $5000 donation for the next three years for the Master’s in Labor Advocacy
Program at the University of Duluth.
A motion was approved for the executive committee to bring forth the
parameters for a statewide agency taskforce to address the budget shortfall
and the potential for agency staff reductions. A report is due to the board on
6-27-08 for final approval and implementation.

Had DHS meet and confer. However, members are not willing to step
forward with concerns. He will keep our Business Agent apprised of
development.
*Old Business; Election committee (Steve) must have nominations for director,
Negotiations, and Delegate Assembly to MAPE on 5-15-08.
*New Business: MSP to donate $5000 to Hunger Solutions.
*Jay Smith, MAPE’s Second VP conducted a video presentation regarding union
membership and benefits. His message is “Together we can!” He can be

A discussion ensued regarding how the SWOT data is being used and how a
talking points document would be helpful in recruiting members.
Jay Smith is willing to assist with our local membership drives, etc.
Our local executive committee will be meeting in June to discuss how to
best reach our members. As our local has the most work sites, 99, we have
a unique challenge
