MAPE Local 1301 Meeting Minutes – April 15, 2008
Blaine Human Services Building, 12:00 p.m.

14 members were present, including Carla Leintz, Region 13 Director and Rick Nelson, MAPE Business Agent.

The meeting was called to order by Thant Pearson, Local 1301 President.

MSP-A motion was made to approve January meeting minutes by Jenni Smith, seconded by Dawn Wittwer and passed by all.

MSP-A motion was made to approve February meeting minutes by Tammy Hess-Miller, seconded by Jenni Smith and passed by all.

MSP-A motion was made to approve March meeting minutes by James Hegstrom, seconded by LaNay Koralesky and passed by all.

Vice President Jenni Smith reported that Stewardship trainings will take place this June.  The Basic Steward Training will be June 10th and Intermediate Steward Training will be on June 18th.  For specific information or to sign up for visit www.mape.org/currentnews/stewardtraining022607.asp   The trainings have been revamped, so if you have not attended for some time it may be beneficial to attend again.  The Steward’s manual is also available on-line.

MSP-A motion was made by LaNay Koralesky, seconded by Jenni Smith and passed by all to keep track of individuals who are interested in going to the stewardship trainings and to pay for lost time. Carla Leintz gave an update on the April 4th Board meeting:

  1. Local 901 donated $500, to the MUHCC (MN Universal Health Care Coalition and has asked the board of directors to match the amount.  No decision was made but it will be discussed more at the next meeting.
  2. ‘Untold Stories’ celebrates its 10th anniversary with more than a month of lectures,    tours, performances and more.  MAPE is a sponsor of this national award-winning labor history series.  More information on the events can be found on the MAPE website.

Rick Nelson, MAPE Business Agent updates:

  1. Local membership is at 57.7%.  Please encourage fair share co-workers to sign up.
  2. MAPE has donated $5,000 to the Lakeview School Memorial/Survivor Fund for the families of the victims of the school bus crash in Cottonwood, MN.
  3. The state is reopening enrollment for those members who were affected by the Blue Plus Dental change.  Look to the website for more information.

** A reminder that nominations for local officers need to be in by May 15th. Please contact Alice Peterson at alice.peterson@nhcc.edu or 763-424-0910 or Melissa Leimbek at Melissa.leimbek@nhcc.edu or 763-424-0975 if you have any nominations.  Nominations are open for the following positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, 2 Delegates/2 Alternates to the Delegate Assembly and one representative for the Negotiations Committee.    
 
This Spring Local 1301 will be having a membership appreciation meeting in place of our normal May meeting date.  The date, time, and location are yet to come.  Full share and fair share members are invited for a free dinner.  Full share members may bring a guest at no additional cost.  Fair share members may bring a guest as well, but they will need to cover their own meal costs.
