The MAPE Membership Committee is launching “Member Spotlight” in an attempt to recognize and acknowledge our members and teams of members who give up their breaks and lunch hours to do the recruiting work, which benefits all of us. We hope to recognize and thank our dedicated members for the work they do year-round, not just at Delegate Assembly time. If you know a MAPE member who is dedicated to growing our union by signing up fellow members, please let us know. We want to hear about our brothers and sisters who are taking the time to meet and talk face-to-face with new employees and existing fair shares, and helping to build their MAPE local by increasing our numbers. We are looking for members who take the initiative -- those who empower others. Please include specifics! Where does she or he work? What have you observed this member doing to build the union, specifically? Numbers are helpful if you have them. We need stories! Send them to jsmith@mape.org ***** |
Paul Guerrero has worked as a PC support and telecom specialist in the Project for Automated Library Systems (PALS) office at Minnesota State University Mankato for the past six years where he has seen first-hand the benefits of MAPE membership. Paul felt so strongly about recruiting new members in MAPE that he has become a MAPE steward and joined the MAPE statewide membership committee. He is also an active MAPE member on campus in Local 1902 which covers the greater Mankato area in South Central Minnesota. As part of Paul’s work with the Membership Committee, he authored the popular “My Two Cents – Your Two Cents” flyer. The flyer analyzes the old-fashioned term “two cents” and how it relates to MAPE membership and its importance. He coaches Legion baseball (in Cleveland, MN -- second and third grade), is involved with his church's youth group, plays softball in an area league and attends as many Twins games per year as humanly possible. He fishes and writes music in whatever spare time is left. What he would like to tell the union member: “As members of MAPE, we can do great things as a union -- we need to be on the same team to accomplish this! Become a full member and be proud to be a part of MAPE.”
